Anyone who knows me knows that I’ve suffered from migraines. Therefore, I am always looking for migraine relief. Migraines affect 39 million people in the U.S. including children. Migraines tend to run in families, and more women suffer from migraines than men or children. Unfortunately, my children will have a 50% chance of getting migraines because they are related to me.
I realize with migraines that you need to find triggers (if you can) and be in touch with your body. I was once told to take my Sumatriptan when the migraine signs start. Your body will talk to you when you start experiencing a migraine. I came to recognize that my usual sign is exhaustion.
I see a neurologist approximately every six months, and I take Sumatriptan for migraine relief. The downfall is that I tend to have migraines at least once a week. I have tried various diets, taking time off the computer and TV, and reducing what stress I possibly can when I can. Migraines drag me down, and even if I only get one migraine a week, I could be out of commission for a few days.
In early 2014, shortly after experiencing a two-month-long ordeal of constant migraines, I headed off to a new hairdresser. She worked for Aveda and was extremely friendly. She noticed the tightness and pain that I was experiencing. I told her about my migraines and what I had experienced. I found out that she was a sufferer of migraines too. While I was there, she introduced me to Aveda Blue Oil which is a blend of peppermint and blue chamomile. The roll-on gave me some migraine relief that helped alleviate some of my nausea.
I recently found out that Aveda Blue Oil is discontinued which was a bummer for me. For Christmas, my sister-in-law gave me an introductory kit for doTERRA oils which have been a lifesaver. The starter kit came with lavender, peppermint, and lemon. I use the lavender and the peppermint on my temples, back of the head and neck, and I use the lemon in my water from time to time. The one thing that I enjoyed about doTERRA is that they send you a pamphlet with their starter kit that educates on the oils and what helps you.
Encouragement to Understand Migraines
Understand that I suffer from migraines and in no way, do the essential oils completely get rid of them. However, they give me extreme relief when I feel that there is none and they assist when I have just a regular headache or a sinus headache. I encourage everyone to understand migraines especially if you have migraines. I realized that there was no way I was going to get through a day of work and more work with my family without some type of help to relieve my pain. Not feeling in control of my life drives me crazy, at least now I know what I’m up against.
